Under mount sinks are what kitchen sinks look like. They are constructed under the counter top (not mounted on like the drop-in sink). The rim of the basin is not visible above the table. Vessel sinks are so called because they are variously shaped and textured bowls that usually have bases and are simply placed on top of a table without being inserted into a hole. Because of the dramatic effect these sinks have, they are rarely seen more than one at a time in a room.
Pedestal sinks, as the name implies, are those classic-looking sinks that are supported by a long and often elegant stand. The stands may be rounded or polygonal in shape. They may also be made to look like an upright tree trunk or a huge goblet. With this type of sink the artistic possibilities are endless, limited only by the designers' imaginative abilities.
A console sinks resembles a drop-in sink in a small table. The only difference is that the table is only big enough to house the sink and there will usually be no extra room for propping up lotions and tissue paper and such other things. Console sinks typically come with built in racks for hanging towels and the table itself may be just a metal framework or may have solid sides made of wood or metal.
What you should look for in a vanity sink is the water-proof top. Whether the sink is a pedestal sink or a console sink, if it comes with a table, be sure the table is also made of porcelain or some other water-inert material.
