To do this, measure the width of the sink from front to back. Make sure to measure from the outside edge of the sink. Next, measure the other way from side to side. Make sure to leave 1/2 inch for the sink to sit on the counter. To do this you will want to subtract one inch of both measurements you took. After you have measured the sink you need to measure the counter hole. Make a mark with a pen or pencil, and cut the hole with the jigsaw, to the measurement you came up with.
Once you have the perfect fit between your drop in bathroom sink and the counter top you are ready for the next step. Before you mount the sink to the counter you first need to install the faucet. This will make it easier than installing the sink while lying on your back under the counter. Also, go ahead and install the water line that runs from the sink to the water lines in the floor. To install the faucet you have to remove the nut from the bottom of the faucet. Place the faucet in the holes of the sink and screw the nuts to the underside of the sink. Remember not to over tighten the nuts. This could cause the nuts or the faucet to crack. Next, attach the flex lines to the underside of the faucet. You will want to wrap plumbers tape around the threads to help prevent leaks. Finally, use your wrench to gently tighten the flex lines.
Take your drop in bathroom sink and place it in the hole you created in the counter. Do not screw it in place. Next, hook up the lines and hook up your drain piping. You can buy all of the drain piping in an easy to install kit. Once again make sure not to over tighten. Now you are ready to secure the sink to the counter. Under the sink you will find brackets that screw in to the underside of the counter. Make sure you have screws that are not too long or too short, and screw the sink to the counter. Finally, you will want to check for leaks. If you have leaks tighten your lines a little more.
Run a small bead of silicone around the outer edge of the sink. This will keep water from getting under the sink edge and into your cabinet. You can use a paper towel, or your finger, to smooth the silicone out and remove any excess. Congratulations! You have installed your very own drop in sink.
